Happy Memorial Day!

May 31. 2010

Hi Hi everyone!  I hope those of you who are having a long weekend are having lovely weather today and quite enjoying it!

I’m about to head over to a friend’s barbecue but I realized it’s been a few days since I’ve stopped by Hottieville to chat with ya’ll.  Is it super hot where everyone else is?  All I’ve wanted to do these days is drink, drink, drink my meals, and fruit has basically replaced all other food groups.  Mmmmm carbs and sugar.  I wouldn’t even be having chocolate if it weren’t for the cocoa powder I dump into my smoothies (seriously, where is my mind?)!  My Magic Bullet has been getting so much play it doesn’t know what to do with itself!!

Today I whipped up this refreshing treat to cool down after tanning in the back yard for a bit.  I heard the ice cream truck rollin’ and I got in the mood for something sweet and chilly!  It’s an awful picture, I’m aware, but I use my BlackBerry to blog so whaaaaaaaateeeverr.  If you want pretty pictures, this is not the place.  This is.

Creamsicle Juice

  • 1 cup coconut water
  • 1 orange, peeled and pitted
  • 1/2-1 cup ice cubes
  • 10 drops vanilla stevia or 1/2 tbsp vanilla extract

Place all the ingredients in a blender and run til smooth!  It comes out kind of creamy and fizzy and just delicious.  Sooooo hydrating and soooooo good!  I never even liked creamsicles as a kid but I have a feeling I’m making this again (as soon as I hit “publish”).

Oh, and what’s summer without some hot jams?

There’s something about 90-esque rock that just screams summer to me.  Dave, Sublime, Sister Hazel, Third Eye Blind.  Soooo happy.  My boyfriend is especially digging “Champagne High” these days.

As usual, what’s on your playlist today? Ya’ll know I love recommendations!  Give em up!

Also, I’m reading The Time Traveler’s Wife this week but I definitely am looking for summer book recommendations!  I love to read EVERYTHING so gimme the 411 – what do you recommend!?  I always used to only read classical literature so I’m a little behind on the popular literature of today.  What are you reading?  What should I read!?

Stay cool, hotties!  I’ll be back soon!

i wrote you back on the comment you left me re the creamsicle. YUM!

i have posted before about coconut water and adding lemon, lime, OJ, etc and a pinch of salt for “nature’s gatorade” since coco water is so rehydrating/rebalancing but never thought to run it thru the blender.

    YUM!!!!

Odd, but my favorite place to find books to read is Library Journal. Because of the pre-pub alerts, of course. ;)

I am LOVING this weather. Am I crazy? (Don’t answer that.)

Haha, my bullet has been getting lots of play too! I have been reading a LOT lately and have been trying to put together a summer reading list since I’m a dork. Here are the books I’m loving this week:

Heart of the matter by Emily giffin (but read something blue and something borrowed if you haven’t already)
I was told there’d be cake by sloane crosley (hilarious essays including one about her vegetarianism)
How did you get this number? by sloane crosley

Ummm that creamsicle juice sounds amazing! That was easily my fave non-real fruit popsicle as a kid. Yummm. This juice needs to become a part of my life pronto!!

That smoothie sounds really interesting, I’ve never added an orange to a smoothie before but I will try it soon. I usually only add berries or bananas.
I read The Time Traveler’s Wife. It was pretty good. The book was certainly better than the movie. Some of my favourite books are She’s Come Undone, The Pillars of the Earth, The Glass Castle, The Kite Runner, A Thousand Splendid Suns…those are all pretty popular so you might have already read them but they deserve the popularity – they’re great reads!

i loove reading about the music you are listening to. I literally listen to sooo many diff types of music but I really like to listen to rap/reggae/country in the summer- idk why because during the year I don’t listen to it at all. I also can’t stop listening to Michael Buble’s Haven’t met you Yet & Everything! I loove Ridin Solo by Jason Derulo right now & Spaceman by Dave Matthews Band. Senorita by Justin Timberlake (old school) is in my head tooo
& i need books to read! i’m right there with you

That smoothie looks incredible! I love your play list, I love 90’s british rock to make me feel summery – it just takes me back to being a teenager and getting the train to the coast with my friends x
